i, tif bitmap, am
living and working in a small, nice city - riga. i have been abroad
in estonia, lithuania, poland, german dr and st. petersburg. i graduated
from the latvian academy of fine arts and at present i am working in
many media. my interests are fishing, basketball, computer graphics,
painting, monumental graphics. i occasionally do performances and create
happenings. i am working for customers offering earning possibilities
in these areas. my life is quiet and peaceful. i look after my wife
and two daughters and like to relax. i do not go to parties or pubs
at night (just when i let some friend persuade me). seldom i read books.
i do not go to the theatre, but i like opera and film. i try to avoid
drinking and drugs. art, in my opinion, is just the same as every other
craft. it doesn't matter whether one is a cobbler, gardener, construction
worker, tailor or artist - a craftsman's skills are essential and good,
positive intentions. the artist must be an intermediary, a funnel between
society and god - the real creator of the earth, the heaven, the artist
himself as well as thought, idea and sense, the peculiar view that he
reveals in the artist's heart and mind. god decides which one of us
to choose to speak through, and when to do it. art is the valuable and
comprehensible when the message is announced clearly and unchanged.
so our task is to choose the appropriate way and manifest it from our
pure consciousness without any self-applause. art makes sense only if
it is positive. thus, if in the process of implementation we let our
selfishness, arrogance, greed or just carelessness touch it, the result
is invalid and worthless. the main problem of classic printed art is
its very slow processes and size restrictions. the solution is the continuous
development of digital printing technologies with their growing variety
of print media. the main benefits are time and maximum control giving
one the opportunity to stop, make changes and start over at any point
you like. the advantages of the classic print methods are textures of
colour and paper, but for monotype printing there is also the live touch
of the artist's hand. to be successful with digital printing, www or
any other up-to-date technologies, the artist must be familiar with
regularities, techniques and methods of classical art. if so, the computer
will be a good working tool, otherwise it is just an another tv screen
for fooling. i think artists without a classical education is just a
modish concept which will disappear in time. there is no way to construct
a building without foundations.
