your favourite artists?
i have been working in graphics for 30 years. at home prints are everywhere
around me because my wife and daughter are graphic artists too. as well
as artistic graphics we also make utilitarian graphics. i haven't had
an ordinary full-time job for 25 years - i work creatively full-time.
my interests? - history, culture, nature - they appear in my works.
by using natural motifs i create my own world, a world of different
spaces. i'm trying to talk about the threats to nature, about its existence,
about the sacredness of the earth. i am also keen on good print-making
technique (i don't use a computer). graphic art is developing. the threats
to as well as the opportunities for the development of graphics derive
from new techniques, for example computer imaging. the advantage of
graphic art is that i can show any given work in different places, the
disadvantage is the length of time required (my technique, point linocut,
is very time-consuming). making graphics is my way of life. i've sent
my works to tallinn because i haven't taken part in an exhibition in
estonia yet, and my artist friends - artists encouraged me to participate
in the xii tallinn print triennial on account of the high level of this
event.
